Our approach
ExpatTribe respects your privacy. This showcase website uses no advertising cookies, no advertising tracking pixels and no third-party trackers for commercial purposes (no Meta pixel, no ad network).
A single tool is used: Google Analytics, to measure the site's audience (pages viewed, where visits come from). It only loads after your explicit consent through the banner: until you click "Accept", no audience-measurement cookie is set. Refusing changes nothing about your browsing.
Cookies used
Without any action on your part, only cookies strictly necessary for the site to work properly may be set:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Secure browsing and forms (CSRF protection) | Session |
| Consent choice | Remember your answer to the banner (accepted or refused) | Local, on your device |
Since these cookies are essential to the site's operation, they do not require prior consent within the meaning of the regulations.
If you accept audience measurement, Google Analytics additionally sets:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Distinguish visitors (random identifier, no personal data) | 13 months maximum |
_ga_* |
Keep the measurement session state | 13 months maximum |
Changing your mind
Your choice is never final: change my consent choice. The banner reappears and your new answer replaces the old one.
Forms
When you fill in the sign-up (Android version) or contact form, the information you provide (email, city, message) is used solely to get back to you. It is never resold or shared for advertising purposes.
What about the mobile app?
The same sobriety applies there: ExpatTribe shows no advertising. The app embeds no advertising SDK and does not use your device's advertising identifier. It is funded by the Premium subscription, not by your data.
What about machine translation? It relies on no cookie and no identifier. When the app displays a wiki entry or a message in your own language, only the text to be translated is sent to Anthropic (Claude): no cookie, no identifier, no profile data. That processing is set out in section 5 of our privacy policy.
